Magpie on KGV

Dear Magpie family,
As we have promised to keep you informed of developments and activities associated with our club, community and leagues it is now time for an update.

I'm sure most of you are aware our federal and state governments have recently announced a high level  plan for the next 2-3 months around how COVID-19 restrictions may be lifted.

This is pleasing news on many levels, most of all because comparatively few Australians and Tasmanians have contracted the virus. As a club we support abiding by the rules that remain in place to help ensure that stays the case as restrictions are eased.

In terms of our club's activities, the permitting of groups of 10 from next Monday (18 May) allows us to undertake more specific planning in terms of business and football operations.

We will soon provide more information about the gradual re-opening of member catering and hospitality services at the Club as details come to hand  including Nita's Cafe in the Magpie Bar, to co-exist with the now very successful  takeaway service.

Also in  terms of “Magpie Bingo”, the week beginning 13 July is a possible restart period  if a suitable operating method and business case can be established under the currently proposed partial increase of indoor venue capacities . We will again provide further updates on this important Club activity as relevant information comes to hand.

Football progress
In terms of football, our playing group has been working hard to maintain a fitness base, and the ability to train in small groups from next week is a first step towards the start of the 2020 season.

Under the government's timeline, training in groups of up to 20 people is slated to commence on 15 June, while full training and competition is listed to begin from 13 July, with Round 1 to take place on a date after that which is deemed most suitable.

All seven TSL clubs are meeting with AFL Tas this Friday to discuss the logistics of the season, and try and find the model that will help us host a successful, if somewhat different looking, competition. Again we will provide relevant news of that as it comes to hand.

On behalf of the Board, the coaches and staff at the club we hope this update has found you and your family in good health and spirits, having enjoyed a great Mother’s Day even if accompanied with a degree of the dislocation we are all experiencing from time to time these days.

We look forward to escorting the GDFC through the wind-back  of the COVID-19 till we can safely resume business and club activities with you all. We will continue to inform you on progress or otherwise as we continue along this path.

Regards and Go Pies!
