Club legend Danny Ling has signed up as a Heartland Member, and he's asking all Glenorchy football folk to do the same to keep our club strong in challenging times. Here's his message:
Hello to all Glenorchy people – members, former members, supporters, players, coaches, sponsors, juniors, player parents and volunteers – I’m writing to you to launch the club’s 2021 membership drive.
A little bit from a lot of people goes a long way, and I’ve signed up and paid my $50 personally because if enough Glenorchy people join up it will make a huge difference.
Last year was a hard year, on the field injuries meant our boys were up against it, and off the field a lot of people had to put in a lot of time to make sure the club was OK.
Our club is OK, but the challenge is still in front of us. AFL funding has been reduced by more than 40% in the past two years – a loss of $45,000 this year alone – meaning we need everyone to chip in.
We have a new CEO on board, Daryl Potter, who is going to be great for our club, we have some good new recruits from interstate and we have some really good players like Brayden Webb and Harrison Gunther back on track after missing last season.
The pre-season training has been excellent, the boys are fit and they’re now getting ready in their practice games for when the real stuff starts. I am very confident they will have a good season.
Our women’s team did really well to make the grand final last season, and while it’s been tough for them waiting to see what competition they play in this year, our club is putting money into making sure they have a season that reflects all the time and hard work they put in on the training track.
There are a lot of good things happening at the club, but we need all Glenorchy people to become a member to make sure they can keep happening, and our club can be the powerhouse of the Northern Suburbs we all want it to be.
As I said, a little bit can make a huge difference when a lot of people chip in. There is a rewards scheme for members at some really good businesses, so join up and let’s make sure Glenorchy stays strong for the long term no matter what is thrown at us.
