This fact was not lost on the North Hobart girls as they produced their best and pushed our girls all the way to the final siren. Magpie tenacity prevailed and we came away with a truly gritty win, booting the final two goals after being headed in the final term.
It was just the sort of character-building performance that is needed leading into a finals series.
The girls have not only shown grit and character on and off the field this year, particularly with the player points system making it extremely difficult for all girls to play regular games and have any consistency with the line-ups we were able to put out across the season.
Our team was the most heavily penalised by the player points system, so for the girls to go undefeated and finish well clear on top of the ladder truly is remarkable. Great job Dean, Cab, Knuckles and to every player who played their part in this amazing performance.
A special thanks must go out also to Wags (Leigh Wagner) and the under 17.5 girls, who have made the absolute most of our club 's new female talent pathway, with a number of the girls excelling at senior level while also playing important roles for our youth girls.
Remarkably, we now have the U17.5 girls playing in their Grand Final this Sunday (29 August) at North Hobart at 5pm, and our senior team taking on arch rival Clarence in the Qualifying Final this Saturday at KGV from 12pm.
This game will be an absolute cracker as both teams put their best sides on the park without any player points restrictions.
If you aren't travelling up north to support the development side, here is a great opportunity to come along to KGV and support our girls into the SFLW Grand Final.
