GDFC members, sponsors, and supporters,
All aboard for destination 2022 and beyond!
The Glenorchy District Football Club is pleased to announce two key appointments to the senior coaching structure for the 2022 season following a thorough selection process.
- Aaron Cornelius - the GDFC 2016 Premiership Coach, has been appointed to the role of Senior Coach.
- Josh Arnold - a decorated player life member of the Club, will take up the role of playing Senior Assistant Coach.
Aaron (Ace) was drafted from the Club in 2008 to the Brisbane Lions as an early draft pick before returning to KGV in a playing coach role from 2014 and continuing as Senior Coach from 2015 to the conclusion of the 2017 season, taking the Club to two grand finals and the 2016 flag. Since then, Aaron has been a Senior Assistant Coach at Southport QLD in the NEAFL for their 2018 Premiership before heading south in 2019 to VFL club - Box Hill, where he held various roles, including player development, line coaching and opposition strategist roles for Sam Mitchel as well as participating in the Hawthorn programme during the two COVID affected seasons. Ace returns with more valuable experience, a desire to lift the Pies and an appetite to continue developing as a coach.
Over the last two years, Josh (Jezzma) has become a stalwart of the Club, showing great promise as an emerging future coach. Club Premiership player, 2020 Best and Fairest, Senior Captain and playing life member amongst a string of his achievements, he has developed to be playing his best football in recent years. Jezzma was in the 2020 TSL Team of the Year and has been line coaching at the Club over the last season or two, proving to be a great communicator who leads by example on the field.
Both Ace and Jezzma are assets to the Club, have tasted premiership success with it, hold a strong commitment to its traditions and the aim of achieving sustained on-field success. Both will make significant contributions to the new coaching structure developed at the Club and continue the great strides already taken since the merger with the Junior Club with the aim of one Club: strong, sustainable, and successful.
On behalf of the Board and Football committee, members, sponsors, and supporters, we congratulate both Aaron and Josh for stepping up and note that they are both two young family men so in advance, we also congratulate and thank Aaron’s wife Katie, daughters Pippa and Winny and Josh’s wife Mikhala and children Grace and Jude whom we will no doubt see more of in 2022.
There are plenty more announcements to come, including our talent and development resourcing, recruits, further coaching appointments, pre-season programmes, women’s team development, sponsors, a new strength and conditioning team, Junior Division coaches, and volunteer opportunities.
Exhilarating times ahead, so get on the Magpie train for 2022.
GO Pies! and bring on 2022
