Glenorchy District Football Club - The Magpies

It was one of the highest-quality games of the TSL season, and while Glenorchy didn’t leave Lauderdale Oval with the four points, they departed knowing they can strongly challenge the current ladder leaders on their own dunghill.

Ben Kamaric and Rhys Mott continued their stunning seasons with another pair of brilliant displays in the midfield with over 30 possessions each, as two quality on-ball brigades battled each other to a standstill, Nat Franklin and Sam Siggins the standouts for the home side.

Both teams accumulated 42 clearances, while the Pies edged the inside 50 count 52-50, where Cal Daly and Aiden Grace both slotted three goals to continue their fine 2019 efforts.

Grace staged another enthralling battle with impressive Bombers full back Ed Trupp, while at the other end the talented duo of Harrison Gunther and Ben McGuinness put on an equally-good old-fashioned duel out of the goalsquare.

Jaye Bowden was outstanding through the middle, shaking the tag of Josh McGuinness to pick up 26 touches, lead the Magpies in inside 50 entries and boot two goals of his own.

Tough start
When veteran Clinton French and Tim Butterworth withdrew from the selected side it appeared to make the trip to The Tip a daunting one for the Magpies, but they started well and subdued Lauderdale’s high-powered attack in the opening term to take a five-point lead into the break.

Glenorchy then launched their assault, with Cam Duffy leading the way in the ruck, Kamaric, Mott and Bowden providing drive in the middle, and Daly, Grace and Sam Reeves converting up forward.

The visitors stretched their lead to four goals, but a pair of majors for the Bombers from off-the-ball free kicks proved costly, the home team roaring back to take a two-point lead at the long break.

Lauderdale had the better of the third term, an Ethan Whish-Wilson goal on the siren stretching their lead to 20 points, but two remarkable Cal Daly goals from the pocket meant it was game on midway through the fourth term.

Daly stuns not once, but twice

The result didn't go his way, but Glenorchy District Football Club star Callen Daly gave fans plenty to get excited about with these two gems in the final term 💎😲 📺 FULL GAME: bit.ly/2IyXk9X

While the Pies had their chances, they were down to one man on the bench at that point and the Bombers clinically finished the job, Whish-Wilson and Matt McGuinness capitalising against an undermanned defence.

It was well-earned win for the hosts, but Glenorchy lost no admirers with their performance, and are ready for another big test at the Twin Ovals against the Tigers this Saturday.
