Senior Player Number: 1031
A former Sandy Bay player who was picked up by Fitzroy in 1991. Played 11 games over two seasons, before transferring to Hawthorn between ’94 & ’97 playing 34 games.
He kicked a memorable goal at Waverley in round 11, 1995. When late into the match against Sydney, Shayne was sent back onto the ground, because of a spate of injuries. He hobbled to a forward-pocket, the Hawks had forced the ball forward, it bounced off the back of a pack and ‘Stevo’ managed to scoop the Sherrin up and dribbled it through for a goal……he was later diagnosed with a broken ankle and missed the remainder of the season.
He returned to Tassie and was appointed Captain of the Southern District Cats in their brief 27 game stint in the TFL.
Shayne then joined Glenorchy in ‘99 and with long awaited breathe for Premiership success, it finally came his way in the same year.
After the departure of Coach Paul Hamilton who was returning to Victoria, Shayne became Club Coach and General Manager in 2000.
After a couple of fine management years, he moved on to join AFL Tas. Management, then to Hawthorn as Tas. State Operations Manager and now Sate Manager Tas. for the North Melbourne Football Club.
Magnificent long kick, brought experience, skill and football knowledge to the Club. |
