League: Tasmanian State League Year: 2021 - Round 4 Date: 25 April 2021 Ground: Kingborough Twin Ovals Glenorchy 6.12.48 lost to Kingborough 10.12.72
Game Notes:
It was a frustrating day at the office for the RSEA Magpies as they failed to fire in the third term, and failed to convert their many opportunities as they fell by 24 points to the much-improved Tigers at Twin Ovals.
The day was typified by the visitors' opening few minutes, where two 'stand' 50-metre penalities gifted the Tigers a pair of cheap goals and a perfect kickstart to the day.
Glenorchy gradually turned the screws after that though, winning inside 50s by a significant 53-38 across the day and controlling large parts of the game as Daniel Joseph, Harrison Gunther, Chris Howard and Tom Cleary proved an imprenetrable wall across half-back.
The third quarter was one to forget, however, as Kingborough piled on 4.4.28 to 0.1.1, a critical 30 minutes given the final margin of 24 points.
The Magpies flew home in the last quarter, but managed just 4 goals from 12 shots on goal to waste the opportunity of a come-from-behind victory.
Tale of the Tape Gunther also spent plenty of time forward in the second and fourth terms when the Magpies had the win, and finished the day with 15 possessions, 8 marks and booted 3.2.
Joseph showed he is returning to his best form with 34 possessions, amassing 30 kicks, 10 marks, 8 intercepts, 6 inside 50s and 6 rebound 50s.
Running machines Adam Roberts (13 pressure acts) and Luke Nicholson (10) led the way on the pressure front, while veteran Sam Rundle (9 pressure acts) was his usual self in that category.
Ben Kamaric came to life with a brilliant final quarter to finish with 26 possessions, 10 inside 50s and 5 clearances, with Cal Daly (5 clearances), John Geard (5) and James Deegan (4) also prominent in that department.
The day wasn't kind on another front for Glenorchy, with Cleary (concussion), Howard (shoulder) and Matthew Joseph (groin) all sustaining injuries. |
