League: Tasmanian State League Year: 2021 - Round 13 Date: 26 June 2021 Ground: North Hobart Oval Glenorchy 14.11.95 defeated North Hobart 11.4.70
Game Notes:
The Glenorchy RSEA Magpies have celebrated three wins on the one day for the first time in almost two years after a trio of terrific triumphs at North Hobart Oval last week.
The senior side were almost impeccable across the opening three quarters - having 41 inside 50s to just 19 for North Hobart - with only some poor conversion in front of goal preventing them leading by much more than 43 points.
While the Demons challenged early in the fourth term, a brilliant Cooper Meredith chasedown and goal put the result beyond doubt as the Pies cruised to a 25-point win.
The victory keeps the Magpies in the finals hunt, with a big challenge coming up this Saturday at KGV against North Launceston. First bounce is 1.30pm.
Tale of the Tape In the main game there were plenty of stars, Harrison Gunther with 9 marks and 5 goals in a classic spearhead's display, leading a quality day of forward production as Adam Roberts (13 pressure acts, 5 turnovers forced), Matt Dilger, Cal Daly and Meredith all booted 2 majors.
In the midfield, Ben Kamaric picked up 39 disposals, 10 clearances and 9 inside 50s, while Riley Oakley (14 pressure acts, 9 tackles), James Deegan (35 hit-outs, 13 pressure acts, 6 inside 50s, 5 clearances) and Callum Thompson (12 pressure acts, 8 tackles) all made life hard for the North Hobart mids.
Down back, precocious youngster Nathan Blowfield was everywhere, with 22 touches, 5 intercepts, 4 clearances and 3 inside 50s to propel many a Demon charge, well supported by Darrean Wyatt (18 disposals, 5 intercepts, 4 spoils) and Chris McKnight (9 pressure acts, 4 spoils).
Perhaps the most exciting tale of the tape were two classic Cal Daly goals, the first a sensational soccer volley from the pocket in the second quarter. |
