League: Southern Football League Women's Division 1 Year: 2021 - Round 7 Date: 25 June 2021 Ground: Pembroke Park Glenorchy 6.11.47 defeated South East Suns 2.4.16
Game Notes:
The RSEA Magpies have moved to 10-0 after an impressive win over the South East Suns at Sorell last Friday night, their sixth win on the trot in the SFLW competition.
In a fitting celebration of premiership player Mackie Sutcliffe's 50th game for the club, the versatile star led a young Magpie team missing an array of stars to a comprehensive victory.
Perhaps the most memorable moment of Sutcliffe's career was the match-winning goal in the 2018 TSLW Grand Final, etching her in Glenorchy folklore.
Sutcliffe was one of the best players on the field on Friday, providing rebound and run all night long, while fellow veterans Kira Maass and Molly Mitchell were also crucial, Mitchell booting 2 goals to help break the game open.
With the SFLW player points system meaning many of the team's more well-known players were on the sidelines, generation next was outstanding, teenager Angelica Clark best afield as she recaptured her brilliant form from last year's TSLW season.
Fellow youngsters Halle Whitehead and Georgia Clark were also standouts, while Dekota Brooks played her best senior game in the black and white, slotting 2 goals and being named in the best.
With the experienced Suns expected to be a strong challenge on a slippery Friday night, the Pies jumped out of the blocks with four goals in the opening term, then extended their advantage to 25 points by half-time to effectively end the contest. |
