League: Southern Football League Women's Division 1 Year: 2021 - Grand Final Date: 12 September 2021 Ground: North Hobart Oval Glenorchy 10.8.68 defeated Claremont 5.2.32
Game Notes:
Due to the points system in the SFLW we were restricted to fielding 15 players in last Sunday's grand final. Fifteen quickly became 14 with a serious knee injury to Nakeesha Horton late in the first quarter.
Claremont having two extra players on the ground, a player loose in their defence and across the wing, Mikayla Booth had an almighty job of covering both wings by herself and her efforts were enormous. At quarter time the play was generally pretty even however we sensed in the last five minutes we were starting to play smarter.
The second quarter we started to gain a little more control around the ground with Halle Whitehead, Mackie Sutcliffe and Morgan Wright excellent in defence, Georgia Clark was starting to dominate around the ground and Brie Barwick, Sarah Skinner and Jemma Webster were showing their elite skills in the midfield.
In the third quarter, although handicapped with fewer players, our players' skills stood out and at the end of each quarter our fitness edge was showing through.
We knew Claremont would come hard in last quarter and that they did with the first two goals, however midway through when it started to get close the girls kicked into another gear and with our magical forward Tarn Ford (best on ground) with 4 goals and Jemma Hay wrong footing them on her left for 2 goals.
The women won comfortably with the final score at 10-8-68 to 5-2-32, great achievement with 14 players and 6 girls under the age of 17 playing. |
